Infinite Divinity

As Arjuna – the greatest warrior on earth rode his horse deep into the forest, a great creature appeared. It had the head of a rooster, the neck of a peacock, the hump of a bull, the waist of a lion, the limbs of a tiger, elephant, antelope and a human

For a moment the proud archer raised his bow and arrow to strike the alien form. Then wisdom dawned – human intellect may have its limits but nature is infinite. Perhaps this too was a form of the multifaceted and omnipresent Divine. Brave Arjuna bowed to the Navagunjara – the avatar with the nine animal parts.

The artisans and poets of Odisha have immortalised this form in their craft. Karu bows to the land that embraces and worships the new and the incomprehensible.
